John O’Loughlin

John ‘Jack’ O’Loughlin passed away yesterday after a long illness. He was 49. John is survived by his wife Julie and their three children Bridget, Patrick & Daniel. The Old Collegians extends their deepest sympathies to Julie and the children. John was a wonderful supporter of the Old Collegians. He was a past president of the Old Collegians Cricket Club and a stalwart supporter of the Footy Club as well. These are the comments posted by Mick Howard (MOCFC) and Martin McIntosh (MOCCC) respectively.

John O’Loughlin passed away this morning. This is the end of what has been a tough struggle over the past 12 months for Jack and the family.

People associated with Jack’s playing days will remember him as a fierce competitior, for both the Old Collegians Football and Cricket Clubs. As a staunch supporter of the football club he was always available to fill a roster for the goal umpiring, the timekeeping, whatever had to be done, a lot of this with the Reserves teams. He would then assume a position alongside the scoreboard for the Seniors games and make sure that the umpires got some respectful commentary on their performance. And almost without fail he would find 20 minutes after a game for a quick beer. It was only two weeks ago that he joined us at and after a game for the last time. He was a ripper guy.

Our thoughts are with Jack’s wife Julie, and his teenage children Bridget, Patrick and Daniel.

We will advise arrangements as they become known.

It is with tremendous sadness that I pass this message on – John O’Laughlin passed away over night following a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Julie and three teenaged children, Bridget, Patrick and Daniel. President of the MOCCC for three years between 87/88 and 89/90, outstanding player; a more fierce competitor has never worn the maroon cap.

Martin McIntosh President MOCCC
